Heavy, durable ceramic bowl, sturdy, bright blue plastic comfortable holder ; vented lid are perfect for warming soup ; other foods in the microwave. The blue holder REALLY keeps your hands completely cool. No tray or potholder needed!
I bought this from the same seller, but on eBay. This was for my husband who eats soup nightly as a late-night meal. He struggled to get his bowl ; a bulky potholder to his chair in the living room where he could dine in the company of computer and TV. I always had missing or soiled potholders! He was always having spills and scorching his fingers.
I liked this set so much that I'm buying my own! I don't use the splatter lid each time, although it's handy to pop it on for storage in the fridge. Even for my own food, which I prefer heated to a very hot temperature, beyond what most folks like, the holder really stands up ; does what the manufacturer claims, keeping your hands cool. This is because the inside of the smooth blue bowl has ridges which allow an air-space between the ceramic bowl and the plastic holder. Ingenious!
I REALLY like the handle. I suffer from Carpal Tunnel and Tendinitis, which are aggravated terribly by holding a normal bowl for several minutes. This handle is perfect! You simply wrap your hand around the curve of the bowl, handle rests between your thumb ; palm. The small 'tab' on the opposite side makes it easy to steady a full bowl when passing it to someone. They've thought of everything! My large Corelle bowls also fit the blue stay-cool holder, so this gets a lot of use at my house. It holds up in the dishwasher. It's the perfect size for large cans of Chunky soup, or man-sized appetites.
Personally, I really cannot understand how another reviewer got a bad result with this bowl set, even despite their method of heating the ceramic bowl without first putting it in the stay-cool bowl. Give this a try, you won't be disappointed! This will become the most-used piece in your kitchen!

I bought this for heating and eating soup. I put only the white porcelin bowl in the microwave and then, when it's done heating, put it into the blue plastic bowl. A simple bowl for heating soup is easy enough; so the value here would be the outer blue bowl that stays cool-to-the-touch. This is not the case. The bottom quickly becomes too hot to touch, and the side remains uncomfortably hot for the first five minutes or so after placing the white bowl into the blue one. Silly me for throwing money at a minor inconvenience that a humble kitchen towel solves well enough.
